Key News #104 - 17th Dec. to 16th Feb. 2016

– Stacey has been so busy this year re-homing dogs all over Europe that she now needs to turn her efforts to fundraising to ensure that 2016 will be just as successful for 4 Paws as 2015 has been. If you turn to page 36 of this magazine, you will see that one of the ways she does this is by giving away a 10-night Cruise as a raffle prize. This is now the 4th year that the cruise has been offered in the raffle, so if you fancy your chances, please contact Stacey to buy your ticket. The New Year’s Day sponsored swim will celebrate its 10th year on 1st January 2016. Again if you would like to take part in the swim or simply be there to sponsor of cheer the swimmers on and enjoy a fun day at the Caribbean Bar, please again see page 36 for further details.

– After the success of the “Hot Summer Nights” series of gigs in the Mijas Auditorium – Big M Promotions are once again organising two events this spring at the fantastic Palacio de La Paz in Fuengirola. The first is a night of “Blues & Rock” and the following night, the top “Bon Jovi” tribute band – “Bon Giovani”. We are also giving away tickets to these events, so if you would like a chance to win tickets or would like to book these very popular shows, please see page 27 for more information.

are a group of accomplished people who have come together to put the fun into fundraising for Cudeca Hospice. In the UK we are all familiar with the work of hospices which ease the suffering of terminally ill patients in their final days. In fact if you search the internet, you will probably find a hospice not very far from your home. Did you know however that Cudeca is the only hospice in the whole of Spain? Did you also know that Cudeca cares for patients with all terminal illnesses, not just cancer? None of us know what is in store for us or our loved ones further down the line, so it is reassuring to know that the only hospice in Spain is right on our doorstep. The following information is provided by Cudeca Hospice – “The Palliative care offered by Cudeca is totally free. The value of the average cost per patient attended to in their home is 1275 Euros, the cost of a patient in our hospice centre is 2100 Euros a week. Every year, hundreds of people that suffer Cancer in an advanced stage in Malaga need special care that Cudeca Hospice offers the patient and their family through a professional team of Doctors, Psycologists, nurses, and volunteers”. Cudeca now has 5 homecare teams as well as the upkeep of the Cudeca premises, maintenance of equipment, professional staff salaries etc. So you will see that the cost of running the Cudeca Hospice runs into millions of Euro every year. On a brighter note, on pages 72 and 73 you will find my own review as a Cudeca Goldie of what we have achieved in 2015. Cudeca Goldies motto is “putting the fun into fundraising” and that is exactly what we have achieved this year and will continue to do. Please support Cudeca Hospice by attending or sponsoring a Cudeca Goldies event in 2016. We are hearing all sorts of horror stories at the moment of strong-arm tactics used by large corporate entities in the UK on vulnerable people, so my advice is – follow the old adage – charity begins at home – you never know when you and yours may need Cudeca’s services so please join in the fun of fundraising. Cudeca Goldies have a website, plus a dedicated Facebook page both of which contain details of events past and present. You can book tickets where applicable via Paypal now or simply donate. We look forward to welcoming you to a Cudeca Goldies event in 2016.
