ACE CHARITY 'ACE' stands for Animal Compassion of España. Since 2001 the founder and President of ACE, Fabiënne Paques, daily takes care of saving animals, which are brought to the killing station "El Refugio" in Mijas.

Dogs who have been wandering around for a while, dogs beaten up and neglected, dogs tied up at the gate of the shelter, puppies left in paper boxes, puppies found in garbage containers, dogs more dead than alive along the highway, or dogs who have just been dumped for no reason by their owner, etc. Without Fabiënne's help these poor things would await euthanisation after a 10 day stay in the killing station.

Thanks to an agreement between ACE and El Refugio, which is owned by the town hall, these dogs are saved from death, except when El Refugio is full, and there is no space anymore for new dogs, then the animals cannot be saved, that's the "deal"....but every time the shelter threatens to get full, all volunteers and Fabiënne do everything they can to bring the dogs to other places such as foster homes, to protect them and to prevent them being euthanised. Over the past few years they have succeeded many times and most of the dogs could be rescued.
